James Douglas Ayers

November 3, 1942 — September 15, 2017

James Douglas Ayers, age 74, of the Defoe Community of Pleasureville, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at his residence. He was born November 3, 1942, in Bethlehem and was the son of the late William Holbert and Roxie Lee Wilder Ayers. He worked at Hussey Copper in Eminence for more than 43 years and was a member and deacon of Union Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Edna Mae Cox Ayers of Pleasureville; four sons: William Douglas Ayers (Sarah) of Pleasureville, Bobby Hardin (Betty) of Defoe, Donnie Hardin of Louisville, and Jackie Ayers of Texas; two daughters: Sonia Way (Jeff) of Pleasureville, and Misty Dell Stone (Clayton) of Pleasureville; two brothers: Tommy Ayers (Mary) of Pleasureville, and Eddie Ayers of Shelbyville; two sisters: Mary Reese (Donnie), and Nancy Estes, both of Frankfort; twenty-eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by three sons: Roy (Tink) Hardin, Lonnie Hardin, and Pete Ayers; two brothers: Jody Ayers and Billy Max Ayers; and three sisters: Patricia Yeary, Brenda Yount, and Barbara Jean Ayers.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville with Rev. Vic Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Ayers Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 and from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Monday.

Honorary pallbearers are Branson Stone, T.A. Hardin, Taylor Hardin, Shawn Hardin, Jordan Hardin, and Charles A. Way. Active pallbearers are Damon Ayers, Ryan Gipson, Blake Ayers, Brack Way, Little Jeff Way, Dustin Ayers, Justin Ayers, and Austin Ayers.
