Lt. Col.(Ret) William Frank Pollard

William Frank Pollard, Lt. Col (retired), age 100, of Pleasureville and Prospect, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home in Prospect. He was born September 1, 1918 in Shelby County, and was the son of the late William Henry and Maud Kelley Pollard. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-one years, Nell MaGruder Pollard, his parents, three sisters, Pauline, Lurine, and Mary Frances, and two brothers, Ezra and James Leonard.

Bill was a graduate of Pleasureville High School and entered the Army in 1941, retiring in 1964. During WWII, he was a 1st Lt. commanding an anti-aircraft battery, first in England and then on Omaha Beach on D-Day, before going to the Rhineland. On November 19th of this year he was presented the French Legion of Honor Medal by the Consul General of France in a moving ceremony at the Capitol rotunda in Frankfort. Bill also served in Korea. He had a second career with the Army Corps of Engineers in Louisville. Bill was a member of the Pleasureville Masonic Lodge and the Lockport Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son: William F. Pollard, Jr. of Prospect; nephews: James Crosby (Delores) of Louisville, and James Pollard (Debbie) of Pleasureville, George Travis MaGruder (Nancy) of Versailles, Kenneth L. MaGruder (Kathy) of Franklinton, Gene Ray MaGruder of Hendersonville, North Carolina; nieces: Shirley Robinson of Gainesville, Florida, Judy Pollard of Louisville, and Nell MaGruder of Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville. Rev. Jerry Anderson, Pastor of Pleasureville Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, and from 12 p.m. until time of services on Sunday. Interment will be in Pleasureville (Dutch Tract) Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Adams, John Rothenburger, James T. Clemmons, Chris Lawson, Kenny Franks. Active pallbearers will be James F. Crosby, James E. Pollard, Kenneth L. MaGruder, George T. MaGruder, Jr., Thad MaGruder, Joseph McKenzie-Rollinson, Joey Pollard, and Earl Holmes, Jr.
