Oscar David Ethington

Oscar David Ethington, age 69 of Defoe Oscar David Ethington, age 69 of Defoe died Friday, September 14, 2012. He was born in Defoe and was the son of the late Huston and Naomi Chisholm Ethington. He was a farmer and a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association. He has owned and trained many horses in his lifetime. The horses that he currently was competing with, Prince & Cracker recently won the World championship at Taylorsville, Kentucky, in 2011, was runner-up 2012 at the Indiana State Championship, One of his horses won the Florida state championship in February 2012. Several years ago, Oscar and his horses set a World Record in Michigan. Oscar traveled extensively from coast-to- coast attending and competing in horse pulls. After family, his horses were his second love. He is survived by his son: David Ethington of Pleasureville; two daughters: Davida Jean Rankin (Luis) of Pleasureville and Marla Gail Baily (Doug) of Shelbyville; three brothers: Wayne Ethington (Bonnie), Eddie Lee Ethington (Becky), and Hubert Logan Ethington, all of Defoe; five sisters: Elizabeth Hunt of Louisville, Patsy Brewer (Ray) of Defoe, Roselyn Monhollen of Shelbyville, Beverly Creasey (Fred) of Shelbyville, and Teressa McKee (David) of Frankfort; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ethington and a sister, Sue Ethington. Funeral services scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville with Rev. John Underwood officiating. Interment in the Ethington Family Cemetery. Visitation after 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, and after 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012. Honorary bearers will be members of the Bluegrass Horsepulling Association. Casket bearers will be John Archer, Chad Fox, Henry Hawkins, Terry Jacobs, Billy Jones, Daryl Lonager, Bill McClellan, and Kevin Wagler. Online condolences may be expressed at sholarfuneralhome.com.
