Samuel (Sammy) Houston Wood

Samuel (Sammy) Houston Wood of Elmburg, age 43, died Sunday, May 15, 2016 after a twenty-year battle with a terrible mental illness. He was born August 25, 1972 in Shelbyville, and attended Shelby County Schools and Lexington Community College. He was a farmer and attended Elmburg Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father: Billy Joe Wood of Elmburg; his mother and stepfather: Beverly Ethington Creasey (Fred) of Shelbyville; one son: William Houston Wood of Shelbyville; two brothers: Joey Wood (Lorrie) and Monty Wood (Kim Casey), all of Elmburg; three nieces: Katherine Goetzinger, Lauren Wood, and Alex Wood, and one great-niece: Gracie Goetzinger; and many special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville with Rev. Larry Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 and from noon until time of the service on Wednesday.

Honorary pallbearers will be Katherine Goetzinger, Lauren Wood, Alex Wood, Shad Hinkley, and Anita Roberson.

Active pallbearers will be Toby Giles, Mike Clark, Paul Hughes, Lee Ethington, Scott Wilson, and Aaron Goetzinger.
